Burrinjuck dinner tickets on sale
Tickets for the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Reunion Dinner and Dance have gone on sale as part of State Water’s Back to Burrinjuck celebrations, to be held in October at Burrinjuck Dam and in Yass.
With the event only weeks away, organisers are busy preparing for the celebrations from Thursday, 22 October to Sunday, October 25 2009.
Highlights of the event program include the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Reunion Dinner and Dance on Saturday, 24 October and the opening of the Burrinjuck Dam Wall to the public for the first time in 20 years.
State Water CEO George Warne said there had been extensive interest in the events, particularly dam wall tours, which run from Friday 23 October to Sunday 25 October 2009.
“People are excited about returning to the dam, many have family connections to it and are eager to take a dam wall tour,” Mr Warne said.
Memorabilia collections are also being established, and schools across the region have been engaged in the events.
“The Yass Valley Visitor Information Centre will house a collection of relics during the celebrations, which will be of great interest to those with a connection to the dam.
“The Leeton Family and Local History Society has come on board to support the celebrations as well.
“We are very grateful to all of our sponsors for their support, particularly Murrumbidgee Irrigation as gold sponsor and Country Energy and Riverina Citrus as silver sponsors.”
Interest in the celebrations has been extensive, with motels filling fast as hundreds are expected to visit the dam and the surrounding area throughout the week.
Tickets for the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Reunion Dinner are available for $50 per person from the Yass Soldiers Club, phone (02) 6226 1911.
People who would like to display items in the memorabilia collection are welcome to contact Louise Booth at the Yass Visitor Information Centre by calling (02) 6226 3858.
