Burrinjuck Dam wall is now closed to the public, following the formal end of Back to Burrinjuck centenary celebrations between 22-25 October, to mark 100 years since construction on the structure began.

The dam site was temporarily opened to the public for three days between 23-25 October and more than 2000 people took the opportunity to tour the 93m structure.

At the culmination of the centenary program – which also featured a reunion dinner and memorial service for workers killed on the site over the years – the dam was again closed to the public as of Sunday afternoon, 25 October.

State Water’s Manager Maintenance and Services, Glenn Baker said the dam surrounds are now closed to ensure safety and security at the site.

“State Water wishes to advise that public access to Burrinjuck Dam wall area has now ceased and the area is once again off limits,” he said.

“We have had some members of the public arriving at the site under the misconception that the wall is still open to visitors – this is no longer the case.

“For reasons of security and to ensure the safest possible workplace for our staff, Burrinjuck Dam is once again closed to the public, without the expressed prior permission of site management.”

Burrinjuck is one of 20 major dams managed by State Water across regional NSW.
