Burrinjuck outflows to increase
2 December 2010
State Water will increase flows from Burrinjuck Dam by 14,000ML/day later today to prepare the storage for possible further inflows.
The additional release will take the total amount being released from the dam to 47,000ML/day, the largest daily release scheduled by State Water from Burrinjuck this year.
Releases at this rate are likely to continue for the next four days.
The dam is currently at 104% capacity.
This decision to release more water is a result of both an analysis of existing data, close monitoring of the catchment area throughout the day and Bureau of Meteorology weather forecasts for the coming week.
Weather advice from the Bureau of Meteorology suggests another significant rain-producing weather system is due to move through the catchment within the next 5-7 days.
State Water has made a significant effort to notify contactable landholders immediately downstream of the dam to allow them to prepare for the increased river levels.
