Further decreases to outflows at Burrinjuck
6 December 2010 - 11AM
Releases from Burrinjuck Dam have been decreased to 43,000ML/day as inflows have fallen to a rate of 33,000ML/day.
As a result storage levels have fallen to 98.7% of capacity, raising hopes that moves to reach a target reduction of 95.5% of capacity - leaving the equivalent of 30GL of air space to absorb - will succeed.
Inflows are down from 58,000ML/day yesterday (Sunday), and outflow has fallen from 80,000ML/day as at midday yesterday.
State Water Acting Water Delivery Manager Scott Barber said that the airspace may be adjusted in anticipation of expected intense rainfall.
“At the moment, we have allowed a 30GL airspace buffer in the case of more rain. We are currently looking at possibly increasing this, to allow for intense rainfall that is expected later this week” said Mr Barber.
Mr Barber also added that staff on site at Burrinjuck had commented that all plant and equipment was operating well.
“Reports from the staff on site at the dam indicate that they are happy with the operations of all dam infrastructure. At the moment, the guys are working on a roster to ensure that all staff have a good balance of work and rest” Mr Barber said.
