Further reduction to outflows from Burrendong
13 December 2010 – 4:30PM
After meeting with the Flood Mitigation Zone Reference Panel this afternoon, State Water will decrease its current outflow from Burrendong Dam.
The panel discussed options for the dam, and it was decided that the current outflow of 55,000ML per day would be reduced to a target rate of 25,000ML per day at Baroona.
The inflows into Burrendong are continuing to fall, and the weather forecast for the remainder of the week predicts little rain across the area.
State Water’s Manager Water Delivery, Dan Berry said that this strategy has two objectives.
“The first objective is to reduce the storage from its current level of 130% to 120% within roughly 1 week.
“The second objective is to provide reprieve to landholders and the community from Gin Gin and below” said Mr Berry.
This strategy will be reviewed on Monday 20 December with the Flood Mitigation Zone Reference Panel.
