Keepit project gets tick of approval
The state’s regulatory body for dam safety gave positive feedback during a recent visit to the Keepit Dam safety upgrade.
The NSW Dam Safety Committee conducted an inspection of the works which are being carried out to improve the flood capacity of the dam.
Project Manager Roy Bergseng said the visit reflected well on the local community as well as State Water and contractor John Holland.
“This upgrade is taking place to meet Dam Safety Committee guidelines, so it was pleasing to hear they were impressed with the quality of the project,” Mr Bergseng said.
“The committee was appreciative of the opportunity to examine the works first hand.
“Given the amount of local involvement through suppliers and subcontractors the surrounding communities can be proud of their contribution as well.”
The construction program remains on track despite the recent wet weather, Mr Bergseng said.
“Excavation for the two new spillways is nearing completion and concrete lining works are underway.
“One of the largest terrain levellers of its type in Australia is now being used to finalise the 500,000 cubic metre rock excavation for the new spillways adjacent to the dam,” he said.
The dam is currently at capacity and will continue to operate as normal throughout the construction works.
Construction of the two spillways is set for completion in late 2011.
