Burrinjuck and Blowering Dams to increase outflows

19 August 2011

Burrinjuck Dam spillingManagement strategies at both Burrinjuck and Blowering Dams are successfully maintaining adequate airspace in the storages after heavy rainfall across the region.

Releases from Burrinjuck Dam were increased to 10,000ML per day at 8pm last night (Thursday, 18 August), and are likely to be maintained at this rate for the next few days. This translates to a river flow rate of 28,000ML per day at Gundagai.

Inflows into Burrinjuck are decreasing, and storage levels are stable at 98.2% of capacity.

Outflows from Blowering Dam will be increased from 2,600ML per day to 5,000ML per day by around 1pm today (Friday, 19 August).

This release is expected to reach Tumut by 5pm this afternoon, with a predicted river flow rate of 8,000ML per day.

State Water has made a significant effort to notify contactable landholders immediately downstream of the dams to allow them to prepare for the increased river levels.
