Hume project wins national award
24 October 2011
A project to install a new filter and drainage system at Hume Dam has won a national construction industry award.
Contractor Advanced Foundation Solutions (AFS) won the $5M to $20M category of the 2011 Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) national Earth Awards on Saturday night, 22 October, for their work on the project.
The filter and drainage project formed the first stage of a $60 million series of works to improve the dam’s capacity to handle extreme floods and earthquakes, and bring it in line with contemporary best practice.
The project was funded by the governments of Australia, NSW, Victoria and South Australia through the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and was managed by State Water Corporation.
State Water project director Glenn Tully congratulated AFS and the project team on the win.
“We were delighted when AFS won the state award so to win the national award in the premier awards for the civil construction industry is an outstanding achievement,” Mr Tully said.
“AFS worked with the project team to deliver innovative solutions throughout the project.
“They operated with an absolute focus on dam safety and the safety of all people on site while maintaining very high standards in quality and environmental outcomes.”
Groundtek Drilling Services and Holcim Quarries were also part of the contractor’s team. SMEC Australia completed the design for the project and supervised the construction.
The CCF Earth Awards are in their 18th year and focus on excellence in construction, environmental management and project management promoting innovation and leadership in Australia’s civil contractors.
