Keepit material donated to local club
28 June 2011
NSW Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has supported State Water Corporation’s donation of 500 tonnes of road base material from the Keepit Dam upgrade to the Keepit Dam Soaring Club.
The material was surplus to the requirements for the $146.4 million upgrade and will assist the gliding club to improve and repair roads at their site at the dam.
“It's great to see State Water maintaining positive relationships with local groups closely associated with the dam during the upgrade project,” Mr Anderson said.
“The sailing club, soaring club and State Park have been accommodating of the construction works and State Water has been fortunate to be able to assist them in different ways during the upgrade.
“A community consultation liaison group has also been operating to discuss any issues and keep stakeholders up-to-date throughout the upgrade.
“I am also proud to see the amount of local involvement in the project with 30-40 local jobs supported and a number of local sub-contractors and suppliers engaged.
“It is testament to the quality of goods and services available in this region.”
The first package of works on the upgrade is scheduled for completion in September, State Water Project Manager Roy Bergseng said.
“Project contractor John Holland is about half-way through the final concreting works - the fuse plugs in each bay of the spillway,” Mr Bergseng said.
“I’m really pleased with how the project has progressed; John Holland and Public Works have been great to work with.”
Designs for the second package of works are underway and should be available in early 2012.
