Proposed Wyangala Dam route on display

Wyangala outlet valves4 April 2011

Diagrams of the alternative route to the road across Wyangala Dam will be on public display ahead of the review of environmental factors (REF) process.

The new road and bridge linking Trout Farm Road and Darby’s Falls Road was endorsed by the Wyangala Working Party and supported by the Wyangala Residents’ Association at their meeting in February.

State Water manager of major projects Michael Jeffery said the documents would be on display in the Cowra and Boorowa Council Chambers and the Wyangala Country Club from Monday, 11 April 2011.

“The diagrams will be on display for residents to see exactly where the alternative route is proposed,” Mr Jeffery said.

“Any concerns or comments can then be fed into the REF process which is expected to start in April once the contract has been awarded.”

The REF process will involve considering ways to mitigate any issues with the proposed route and determine the exact location for the new road and bridge

The geotechnical investigation into the road and bridge will be carried out by NSW Public Works after they won the tender process in March.

The road across the dam will be closed during construction on stage 1C of the dam safety upgrade, raising the dam wall crest, and will remain closed thereafter in line with the NSW Critical Infrastructure Framework and in the interest of safety of State Water staff.

The safety upgrade is one of seven State Water Corporation is managing throughout regional NSW to better enable the dams to withstand extreme floods.

The road will not be closed until the alternative access option is available.
