Burrendong upgrade

Location: Macquarie River, 30km south east of
Wellington in NSW
Dam completed: 1967
Storage capacity: 1,188,000 megalitres
Upgrade cost: in excess of $20 million
Funding: The NSW State Government
Start date: 2010
Expected completion: 2011
Stage One: Raising the height of the main dam
wall and saddle dam B. Modifications to the existing
spillway. The road over the wall will be closed
during construction and maybe permanently thereafter.
Stage Two: Construction of a 100m auxiliary 
spillway and fuse plug at saddle dam A. 
Storage capacity and water releases will not
be altered by the upgrade.

  • Parsons Brinckerhoff Pty Ltd is engaged to provide construction site management services
  • Milestone one (management plans) for construction of stage 1A in progress
  • MWH Consultants Pty Ltd submitted a draft concept review of the stage 1B (spillway works) 
  • Stage 1A (crest raising) construction contract awarded to MacMahon Contractors Pty Ltd
