Lachlan Valley Procedures

Lachlan RiverOn the 9 November 2009, the NSW Office of Water imposed a Temporary Water Restriction Order under Section 324(1) of the Water Management Act 2000 on the Lachlan regulated river.

Why has the order been introduced?

The order aims to preserve water for domestic and stock rights for as long as possible and prohibits access licence holders from taking water from the Lachlan downstream of Condobolin and from Nerathong Creek, Wallamundry Creek, Wallaroi Creek, Jemalong Creek and Carrawabity Creek.

What if I have an approved water order with State Water?

If the holder of an access licence has an approved water order with State Water they may extract the water according to the details of the water order.

How do I know my water order has been approved?

A State Water River Operator must assess all applications for water orders received on the Lachlan. Once an order has been approved, a Customer Information Officer will advise you that the water order has been approved for extraction.

Accessing water for domestic and stock purposes

All water users along the river wishing to access water for domestic purposes under an access licence holder or basic landholder rights must comply with the town water restrictions imposed by the Shire Council they reside in.

Water for stock purposes must be taken through a pipe to a trough. The water pump used for extracting stock water must have an inlet diameter no greater than 50mm. The total volume of water that can be taken for stock watering is restricted to 3 megalitres per landholding, per water year from the date of the order from NSW Office of Water.

A log book has been developed for those extracting stock water. The log book is to be kept up to date and made available to either NSW Office of Water Compliance Officers or State Water Officers if requested.

Details of important contacts can be found within the Temporary Water Restriction link at the top of the page.
