Water Pricing

State Water’s pricing structure is determined by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART). IPART is an independent NSW government agency that sets prices for a range of government services including water, public transport and aspects of gas and electricity charges.

On 18 June 2010, IPART released its final report and determination on the bulk water prices that State Water Corporation (State Water) can charge its bulk water customers for the 4 years from 1 July 2010.

IPART has determined the bulk water prices for NSW, based on State Water Corporation’s efficient costs for services, cost sharing between customers and government, and the affordability for customers.

Under the determination, the annual bills for regulated bulk water users across NSW will increase in real terms. The size of the increases vary depending on which valley customers are located in, whether they hold high security or general security licences, and their annual water usage.

The increases in prices reflect the reality of falling water availability due to the ongoing drought and the increasing real costs to upgrade and maintain water delivery infrastructure.
