Environmental Management Plan

State Water is committed to conducting its operations in line with the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development. As part of this, State Water is rolling out a set of policies, procedures and project initiatives to reduce our impact on the natural environment and to provide for positive environmental outcomes.

Our commitments and implementation measures are captured in our Environment Management Plan. This plan presents strategic objectives that have strategies and targets covering the improvement of the riverine environment, water quality monitoring, cold water pollution, fish passage, asset management, energy and waste management, land management, cultural heritage and stakeholder engagement. We report annually to our regulator on our performance against this plan and incorporate environmental management reporting in State Water's Annual Report.

The Environment Management Plan primarily focuses on the operations and management of assets owned and operated by State Water but recognises that broader environmental benefits will be achieved through cooperation among all stakeholders.

The inaugural Environment Management Plan was first released in 2006 and underwent a formal review in accordance with our Operating Licence in 2010. The Environment Plan 2011 - 2016 below is the current version arising from that review.
