Dams and Weirs |
State Water maintains, manages and operates $2.3 billion of assets. The operation of these assets enables water delivery to customers. The key physical assets under the responsibility of State Water include: |
20 large dams |
| |
1 small dam not associated with water delivery |
| |
11 small dams not associated with water delivery managed under contract |
| |
280 weirs and regulators to manage river flows |
| |
139 associated structures, such as bridges, culverts, levees, etc. |
| |
222 buildings and residences directly associated with the operation of the major assets |
| |
more than 200 buildings and residences not associated with water delivery. |
| |
While Keepit Dam is safe for day-to-day operation, State Water is upgrading the dam to meet modern day safety requirements for large to extreme flood and earthquake events. |
After extensive investigations and consultation, State Water narrowed the alternative approaches for upgrading the dam down to three. These three options have been assessed for their environmental impacts during construction and operation through an Environmental Assessment, which is now on public exhibition. |
It is important to know how the community feels about the final three options and how they affect people differently. |
State Water has developed several fact sheets to help the community understand the Environmental Assessment and the project. The full Environmental Assessment is available on the Department of Planning website at: http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/asp/major_projects.asp |
