State Water's core water delivery business provides services to about 6,200 customers who purchase water sourced from 'regulated rivers'. These services include operation of its assets (the dams and weirs) to deliver allocated water from storages, metering and commercial services. The operation of these assets enables the delivery of about 5,000GL/year of bulk water to water users and about 9,000GL/year to the environment in the 14 regulated river systems in NSW, along some 7,000kms of rivers.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is the natural resource manager responsible for issuing water licences to enable users to access water from rivers and groundwater.
State Water is responsible for monitoring water usage on regulated rivers and groundwater management areas in NSW. State Water bills and collects water charges from all bulk water licencees in NSW.
